'Moving Stills' is the 2006 tra
iler for the gay and lesbian fi
 lm festival 'Roze Filmdagen' in
  Amsterdam. The clip was meant
to be recognized by the audienc
e as belonging to a gay event,
 however, without using overtly
obvious or even cliche signs an
d symbols for that matter, whic
 h wouldn't have payed adequate
 tribute to the autonomous statu
 s of the festival. Additionally
, film as a dynamic medium was
to be visualized in the clip, t
oo. For this, the image of the
gay flag was chosen as the visu
al basis and translated into mo
vie form. The gay flag equally
 stands for unity and diversity,
both of the gay and lesbian pe
ople and of the festival, which
unites men and women in a cult
 urally stimulating atmosphere,
as much as it satisfies the mos
 t diverse personal film tastes.

 The trailer reflects this idea:
Every single frame of the the
 final clip stems from selected
freeze images of one of the mov
ies running in the festival. Fr
 om these stills, vertical fragm
 ents were extracted that contai
ned one or more of the six colo
rs of the gay flag. Every pixel
  of these vertical fragments wa
s then spread to fit the movie
  screen. The montaging of these
  generated images puts the stat
 ic rainbow flag into motion.
